Still Life (Live)
05:06
|
|||
upside down, hung up by the flesh
i am slowly speaking a safety net
of gentle hopes into empty space
constellations spanning all across this sucker's face
i got one bare foot out the front door
i would lie if i said it wasn't like this before
i just couldn't feel the breeze
maybe this still life is not what i need
and if i don't say it now,
i'll say it tomorrow or in a week
listen,
the bird's wings spread like a kite
if the wind picks up i could be gone tonight
the bird's wings spread like a kite
if the wind picks up i could be gone tonight
and I'll grow
i'm just out here,
and i will grow
inside out, hung up by the heart
i forget my lines and my entire part
i don't trust the prompter with their little lies
i don't trust the script with my silly little life
stage is closed, there's nothing left inside
if the wind picks up i could be gone tonight
stage is closed, there's nothing left inside
if the wind picks up i could be gone tonight
i'm just out here tying up a couple of loose hands
i'm just in here holding my breath
i'm just holding what was and holding what could have been
holding what i have never possessed
and i cradle it in between these two sore hands
and i squeeze it a little too hard
and i find a seam and i pull just a little bit
i watch it exhale and fall apart
and i'll grow. i’m just out here, and i will grow

Vertigo (Live)
03:08
|
|||
i draw a crooked line
i fold it over twice
the atlas knows when it’s time
to start breaking at the spine
the night explains its weariness
the road explains itself
and i am overjoyed
that we’re going to hell
i am a kind blood sucker
i am writing notes under the covers
i am rough at the elbows
i pray for vertigo
spin me right around
when it’s dark let me out
glue two bowls at the rim
inside the sphere it’s dim
this is how we’ll eat
we’ll let the darkness feed us
tie a little white bow
to the hood ornament
and then let’s just go
and if you cannot tell
i am delighted that we’re going to hell
you are a timely excuse
for a tongue bloody and bruised
you’re a fresh breath of air
licked off broken glassware
we’re alive and unfolding
we’re blood red and golden
in our sunday clothing
we drive until morning
and if you cannot tell
i am over the moon
knowing we’re going to hell.
